Many of the beaches are sandy and have been awarded ‘Blue Flag’ status, perfect for babies and toddlers!
Ballinskelligs is located 2km South of Dungeagan Village and is within the Gaeltacht, an area where people still primarily speak the Irish language. This extensive sandy beach has been designated as a Natural Heritage Area.
Ballybunion town has two sandy beaches north and south of the town, both of which are Blue Flag approved. Ther Northern beach (also known as ‘Ladies beach’) has steps leading down to it so its not ideal if you have a stroller, but ‘Men’s Beach’, to the south has ramps and is stroller accessible. Both beaches are beautifully kept,very clean, and have all the great facilities and lifeguards.
Ballyheigue Beach stretches 3 Kilometers from the picturesque village of Ballyheigue. This sandy beach is very popular with families.
Kells Beach is a beautiful sandy beach located on the Iveragh Peninsula, 11 km from Caherciveen.This is a great family friendly beach.
Magherabeg is a spectacular sand beach with sand dunes 5km north of Castlegregory. The water is popular with surfers but is safe for toddlers to splash about when the waves are not too high.
Banna Strand is a firm family favorite and is a long sandy stretch of beach, 7km from Tralee town with spectacular views of the mountains of the Dingle Peninsula. Banna Strand Beach Resort is right on the beach if you decide to stay in this area and the resort has a fantastic soft play area for toddlers for rainy days!
Derrynane Beach is close to Caherdaniel and is a glorious stretch of long sandy beach perfect for toddlers. It is never overcrowded and the Derrynane hotel is close by if you decide to stay in the area (see where to stay for further information).
Fenit Beach is a sandy beach is designated as a natural heritage area with a rich abundance of flora & fauna located close to the small fishing village of Fenit.
Inch Beach is an excellent family beach, recommended highly on Tripadvisor. It is a Blue Flag beach and is great for long walks along the strand and fun family days out.
Rossbeigh Beach is a sandy beach located just on the outskirts of Glenbeigh. The beach juts out into Dingle Bay. The beach is perfect for kids and the town of Glenbeigh has many holiday homes which can provide a great base for a trip to Kerry.
Ventry Beach is a sandy beach located on the Dingle Peninsula at the south west of Ventry.This beach is very popular with families and has Blue Flag status.
White Strand, Caherciveen is regarded by many as the county’s smallest and most intimate beach and offers a fantastic place to relax.
