Athenry Castle  was built in 1249 by Meiller de Bermingham. The castle was restored about 3 years ago using the building techniques which would have been used when the castle was built. You can also visit the heritage centre and discover more about Athenry’s rich medieval history and dress up in medieval costume, test your skills with Have-A-Go-Archery, see the Market Street and visit the dungeon of horror! Athenry has a number of cafes and restaurants and a trip here is well worth a visit. Make sure you bring a baby carrier if you will be visiting the castle! There are plenty of restaurants and cafes in the town such as ‘The Nook’ and ‘The Town Cafe’.
