Cancun’s Beaches

The beaches in and around Cancun are one of this area’s biggest draws and the water is crystal clear and warm. Be aware that there are loads of vendors walking up and down the beaches selling  items such as sarongs, jewellery, sea shells and more.

Hummer Jungle Tour

A popular outing with families of all ages is the Hummer Jungle Tour, Cancun.  This tour visits a petting zoo, sees ruins, takes you to Cenotes for a swim and hits the beach.  For the adventure in you, there are zip lines too (suitable for over 3s)

The Interactive Aquarium Of Cancun

The Interactive Aquarium of Cancun is located in the heart of the hotel district. This small but modern aquarium lets you get up close and personal with aquatic life. You can pet ray, nurse sharks and touch starfish. There is also a chance to swim with dolphins in a large pool.

Isla Contoy

This island is about 30 km (19 mi) north of Isla Mujeres and apart from its natural beauty it is considered to be the most important nesting place for seabirds in the Mexican Caribbean with more than 150 different species. The island makes for a nice day trip and has loads of space to run around and the beaches are perfect for paddling.

Isla Mujeres

The Mujeres Island is a 20-minute ferry ride from Puerto Juarez north of Cancun. This five-mile-long island makes for a nice day-trip. Playa Norte, the island’s prettiest beach, features a wide stretch of sand, but the waters can have a strong undertow, so always ask if swimming is safe before venturing in.You can take a cruise to Isla Mujeres and enjoy the island’s beaches.  You will also find the Royal Garrafon Park on Isla Mujeres with great snorkeling, kayaking, and ziplining. The park also offers dolphin swim programs and bicycles rentals to tour the island out of the water (bikes with toddler seats are available). The Punta Sur cliff area features a sculpture garden, Mayan temple and ocean views.

Mayan Ruins

The Mayan Ruins are truly fascinating for adults however, toddlers might find the trip a little boring.  If you decide to visit the ruins  you may want to consider renting a car to give you flexibility and allow you to stop every so often or a combination tour where you can visit a water park too, so at least they can swim after visiting the ruins. Museo Maya de Cancun

The Museo Maya de Cancun is the largest structure built by the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) where you can learn about the ancient Mayan civilization which once inhabited the area. The building itself is a modern piece of architecture and really quite nice to walk around in. There is a nice view of the surrounding areas from the top level. The building is modern and air-conditioned.

Parque de las Palapas

This square in the downtown area of Cancun is considered a classic place to meet for most of the residents in the heart of the city. The area is shaded by palm trees which offer relief from the sun and in the evenings the well illuminated square has a wonderfully romantic air. An open-air food court with 14 stands is located at the northern end of the park, and a few wooden carts can be found throughout, used by local artisans to sell their products.

MUSA Museo Subacuatico de Arte

The MUSA Museo Subacuatico de Arte opened in 2009 and needs to be seen to be believed. This monumental underwater contemporary museum aims to demonstrate the interaction between art and environmental science and form part of a complex reef structure for marine life to colonize and inhabit whilst increasing biomass on a grand scale. All of the sculptures are fixed to the seabed and made from specialized materials used to promote coral life.

Visit a Submarine

The Subsee Explorer and Atlantis Submarine are unique ways to see the underwater world of Cancun without ever getting wet.  Perfect for families with toddlers- they will be very excited.

The Xoximilco Cancun is a new attraction which provides a five-mile trail of canals cutting through 140 acres of jungle for a magical boat tour. Visitors float through the water while dining on Mexican food and listening to live Mariachi music. Perfect for both babies and toddlers.
