The easiest way to get there is either to book a package holiday or fly to Naples or Rome and then take a train or bus.
Once there the public transport is good and you will also be able to take day trips to places like Capri and Pompeii with local tour groups. You might also opt to rent a car which is a great option with babies and toddlers as it gives you a lot more flexibility however, there are some very narrow roads with steep cliff drops so only rent a car if you are comfortable driving on these types of roads. There can also be a lot of traffic jams on these roads during the peak tourism season so bear this in mind with babies and toddlers whose tolerance for sitting in a car may be low.
