June, July and August are the warmest months to visit Salzburg, with an average daytime temperature of 24°Celsius.
Unfortunately these are also the wettest months to visit the city so be prepared and bring some light raincoats for your toddlers. You will also need to bring your rain cover for your buggy for the babies.
For music fans the month of August is alive with the sounds of Mozart. The city hosts a month long celebration of the music of its favourite son along with the music of many more classical and contemporary composers. During Summer getting out the city and walking biking or hiking in the nearby hills of the Alps can be a beautiful experience that the whole family can enjoy. There are B&B’s, farmhouse, hotels and plenty of kids activities available during the Summer months.
The Christmas and Winter season is as good, if not better than the Summer season in Salzburg. The average daytime temperature is about 3° Celsius. Typically the days are dry and windless so it is far from a dreary Wintertime experience. Salzburg has some of the most authentic and traditional Christmas markets in Europe attracting tens of thousands of visitors per year. Salzburg is a real winter wonderland and your children will be in awe at the city’s lights, stalls and decorations.
