Fuerteventura With a Baby or Toddler

Family Holidays in Fuerteventura with Babies, Toddlers and Kids Under 4

Fuerteventura is the perfect family holiday destination  with loads of child friendly activities, baby and child friendly hotels and accommodation (See Where to Stay) options and plenty of activities (See Top Attractions) for kids of all ages. Fuerteventura has the biggest and best beaches in the Canary Islands archipelago. There are 340 kilometres (210 miles) of coastline with white sandy beaches in Fuerteventura and crystal clear waters.

Corralejo is the islands largest resort and you can still get a sense of the old fishing village from which it developed. Caleta de Fuste is a great area for kids and it is located just south of the airport. There is a large horse-shoe beach with safe waters. There is plenty to do in both areas with playgrounds, crazy golf, mini train for younger kids. Many of the hotels offer kids clubs and almost all hotels and restaurants will be child friendly.

The bulk of your family holiday in Fuerteventura will be spent at the beach or pool but the island is well worth exploring either by tour or better yet, by renting a car. Much of the interior, with its large plains, lavascapes and volcanic mountains, consists of protected areas, although there are organised tours and vehicular access across them. The island was declared a UNESCO biosphere in 2009. As you drive, the black scorched desert like earth suddenly blooms into historic towns such as Pajar and the old capital of Betancuria. Renting a car also allows you to visit the islands ‘off the beaten track’ beaches.

The Best Time to Visit

Fuerteventura soaks up 3,000 hours of sunshine a year. The island may not be as developed as fellow Canaries such as Lanzarote, Gran Canaria and Tenerife, but its sunny all year round.

There’s no bad time to visit Fuerteventura; it really does live up to its year-round reputation. The winter months can be slightly cooler with prevailing winds, but are still pleasant.

April to May is ideal, temperature-wise, although Easter is popular with tourists so there can be crowded beaches.

During the winter months, temperatures average highs of 22 °C and lows of around 15 °C, whereas during the summer there are average highs of 35 °C and lows of 20°C can be expected. Precipitation averages at 147 mm per year, most of which falls in autumn and winter.

Flight Time

Flight time from the UK and Ireland takes between 4 .5 and 5 hours which can be tricky with a toddler so make sure you bring plenty of snacks and distractions for the flight.
