The island of Langkawi is a virtual paradise situated just north of Penang surrounded by turquoise sea. The interior of the main island is a mixture of picturesque paddy fields and jungle-clad hills. The shoreline is fringed by powder-fine sand and swaying coconut trees and the island is especially recognised for its excellent diving opportunities.
There are loads of baby and toddler friendly hotels (See ‘Where to Stay’) on the island which can be reached by boat or plane from the mainland. There are also boats and planes arriving and departing each day from southern Thailand. The island has loads of sandy beaches, mangroves and even has a sky walk where you can catch a cable car to the top of a mountain and take a stroll in the cool air. There is also an aquarium – Ocean World with a cafe that kids will love.
Langkawi’s pristine beaches – namely Datai Bay, Pantai Cenang, and Tanjung Rhu – are also rated among the best in the world while vast roads provide easy access to its vibrant beach towns. Due to the size of the island, Langkawi’s best attractions are best explored by rented vehicle.
You will be able to buy your baby and toddler essentials in Langkawi however, you may not recognise the brands from home so it is best to bring formula from home as powdered formula can be expensive.
